Lightner Game Double - A double of opponents' Notrump contract based on a long running suit, asking partner to lead their short suit without primary honors.  In Mike Lawrence's Double! New Meanings For An Old Bid, he refers to this as "You-Figure-Out-What-Suit-I-Want Double".  Perhaps you are holding something like:

K Q J 9 8 3 2
6 5 2
7 4
A

  W N E S
  (1N) P (2C) P
  (2D) P (3N) P
  (P) X AP

In this auction, North is asking partner to lead a Spade in an attempt to promote the suit before opponents establish their perceived long Club suit.  South probably has few honors and a short Spade suit; thus a Spade lead will allow North to establish the long running suit.

Incidentally, when the opponents have voluntarily bid 3 Notrump and the player not on lead doubles, the double requests partner to make a setting lead based on the following priority:

1.

The suit bid by the opening leader

2.

The suit bid by the doubler

3.

Dummy's first bid suit, likely a four card suit as opposed to a long suit (rebid)

4.

If none of the above apply, use the Lightner Game Double criteria - asking partner to lead their short suit without primary honors
