Double Counting - A misevaluation when a player counts  wasted values.  A common error is to count shortage points when partner has counted length points.  Another trap is to double count one's own hand.

Is South's Diamond singleton worth shortage points with three top trumps?  To do so would be double-counting South's Spade honors for ruffing.  Notice how West has three quick tricks, plus the SJ if North ruffs one of South's Diamonds in dummy.
